The Tim Kliphuis Trio was inspired to take on Modeste Mussorgsky’s masterpiece, Pictures at an Exhibition in a bid to develop their musical language again (something they seem to do every two years …) Mussorgsky’s cool harmonies and quirky melodic sense give a foreboding of jazz, so maybe this one wasn’t such a big leap after all. And of course the Trio added some more contemporary musical pictures … Cover art by Helen Wyllie from Edinburgh!
